Briere becomes hero again

The Sabres blow another point to playoff contending teams, this time losing 4-3 in a shootout to the Flyers. At least the Sabres picked up a point, which will place them in a tie with the Flyers for the 8th and final spot. To put the cherry on top, Briere scores the game winner in the shootout. The Sabres end up blowing an early 3 goal lead in the first period when R.J. Umberger scored the game tying goal in the third on the power play. The Sabres didn't look all that bad in this game, but definitely played it safe in the second and third periods which led to their undoing. At least we can hang out hats on the fact that we scored a point and still have a tenuous hold on the eighth and final spot. The major stars of this game really were the former heroes, Biron and Briere. Biron looked solid in the shootout while Briere knew the move to beat Miller pretty handedly. Pominville was the major star for the Sabres tonight scoring a goal and an assist. The next game up for the Sabres will be Wednesday at home against another former Sabre, J.P. Dumont and the Nashville Predators.
