Sitting here listening to the new
SabreCast from the bloggers of
The Willful Caboose and
Top Shelf, I figured that I would post some thoughts from this weekend.
The Sabres showed the desperation that they have in the 2-1 overtime win over the Bruins. While the playoffs are still in reach, they really made their life more difficult in not getting the full two points. The Bruins can only get one point in their next three games for the Sabres to have a chance to make the playoffs. They also have to leapfrog the Capitals, but that is another story. In terms of the game, it really was a good defensive effort from a team that seems to choke down the stretch this week giving up crucial leads in the last two minutes of the game. Andrej Sekera becomes the hero for this game scoring the game-winning goal in overtime from about 44 feet. No defensemen is in the minus for the night (right now it says Lydman is a -1, but that makes no sense when he scored a goal) and they looked like a cohesive unit for once. At least the Sabres put on a show in what was most likely their final home game.
The NLL loves the Buffalo Bandits. Rochester knocked off the Wings AND the Shamrox beat the Swarm. This puts the Bandits in a better playoff position with the Wings at 7-3, Rock and Swarm at 7-4 and finally the Bandits at 7-5, only a game back from the top spot. The Titans are a half game behind the Bandits at 6-5. With four games left, 3 at home, and three of them against teams that are .500, the Bandits have a good shot at making the playoffs in either the top or second position.
