Preseason Game Preview Sabres vs. Wild Part Deux

The Sabres are travelling to St. Paul, Minnesota tonight to face off with the Wild. Tonight's game and the next three games for the Sabres are going to be more important than the first five were. The Sabres went 1-2-1 in the first five games of the preseason but those games featured mainly junior players and rookies. Most of those players have been sent to their junior teams or Portland and now the fun begins.

The Sabres now have to solidfy their play and get a little bit of momentum going into the regular season. The team plays three games in the next five days: tonight at Minnesota; tommorrow at Columbus; and Sunday at Detroit. These games will solidfy their lineup and seperate the rest of the players that will be sent down to Portland. With Gaustad out of the lineup, there is going to be a hole on the wing to be filled and the competition for that spot is going to be fierce. The bubble players as of now are Gerbe, Kennedy, MacArthur, and Darche. Both Gerbe and Kennedy have played well in their few preseason starts, MacArthur has experience in the NHL and probably is the front runner for the spot. Darche played 74 games for the Lightning last year and also has the experience.

The Wild have played a couple of games, including their last one last night against the Blackhawks beating them 3-2 in overtime. Marc Andre Bergeron has looked like a beast in their last three games fighting in each one of them. This includes Sunday's scrap against Gaustad. In his last one, Kyle Beach broke his nose. Bergeron is not known as a fighter, in fact has never fought in the last three years. Apparently though, this preseason he is trying to prove his toughness. The Wild have gone 3-1 so far this preseason, with three of their games going into overtime.

Game is on WGR 550 at 8:00 pm.
