A preview is not the same without comparing yourself to your competition. So here is how the rest of the division shakes out.
Toronto
Who's In: Jamal Meyers, Niklas Hagman, Mikhail Grabovski, Ryan Holloweg, Mike Van Ryn, Jeff Finger, and Curtis Joseph
Who's Out: Darcy Tucker, Kyle Wellwood, Bryan McCabe, Andrew Raycroft, Mats Sundin
The Leafs rivalry will only be fueled by the fans and not the product on the ice. The Leafs do not look all that intimidating and their lineup is weak with young talent. The Leafs are in rebuilding mode and not challenging for a playoff spot any time soon.
Ottawa
Who's In: Jason Smith, Alex Auld, Jarrko Ruutu, Filip Kuba
Who's Out: Wade Redden, Ray Emery, Andrej Mezaros
The Senators have the same look as last year. The Big three in Heatley, Alfredsson, and Spezza with a not as scary supporting cast. Martin Gerber has taken over the starting role for the Sens now that Emery has left for Russia. Their defense has seen some changes but talent wise the level is probably still the same. The Sens might be competing for a playoff spot, but at most its going to be an 8th spot.
Boston
Who's In: Michael Ryder
Who's Out: Glen Murray
Boston was a good team heading into the stretch last year. The core of the team has not changed all that much and that should be a good thing for the Bruins. The Bruins should be in the same situation as the Senators. They will be competing for a playoff spot but definitely in the second half of the pool.
Montreal
Who's In: George Laraque, Alex Tanguay, Robert Lang
Who's Out: Michael Ryder
The Canadiens were a good team last year and it seems that they only have gotten better. The one issue with this team is whether the 100 year anniversary of the Montreal Canadians will be a distraction for this team. They should take the division with ease.
